no woman no kraj ( pronounced:cry ; 'kraj' means country in Polish ) is a project addressing social and political issues in Poland. In a country where 'staues are better protected than people', we dance together and we fight together -  protesting against new abortion ban.

“They Used To Dance”

We used to dance. We used to set our bodies and spirits free. But I fear that due to the ongoing pandemic, dancing will become only a mythical story, a fairytale we will tell our children. My collection portrays a last glance at the world we used to know and the thing that I miss the most.

While creating this collection I got inside of my own head. I danced a lot, by myself, to get back to that core feeling inside of me when I moved on music. What is this feeling that makes me feel so powerful and energetic?

I also got inside the head of others, by asking them how they experienced not being able to go out and dance. Due to the lack of dancing freely, some people realized that dancing used to function as a meditation, a form of therapy. “I used to find myself at night dancing, and that’s why the last year I’ve been lost during the day.” We need dance to function in our daily lives.

The prints,  the shapes and the colours

Imagine yourself dancing in a crowd, and suddenly your favorite song comes on. You want to be present in the moment só badly that you close you eyes for a bit, to experience life just a little bit more intense. What do you feel? What do you see? For myself, I see colours dancing inside my head, behind my eyelids. Like an orgasm in your brain, you can feel the dopamine releasing. That vision is what I tried to express.

So, lovely people, close your eyes with me and let me take you back to that good old feeling of freedom. Let’s make an ode to dancing, that we one day will experience again altogether.

We are all familiar with it, the well-known concept, stress. Stress can be experienced in a lot of different situations. But how do we deal with it? And are we able to handle this stress? We go back into our thoughts and start overthinking. In addition, our society has been based on the idea: "the sky is the limit." Everything must always be more, better, bigger and "more perfect". Good is no longer good enough. Constant pressure controls our lives and dealing with burn out and depressions becomes the new norm.

In this collection, the pressure of relief, peace can be experienced in stressful situations like work, sports, going out with friends and spare time, due to weighted elements within the clothing.

Stay strong through your mental pain, grow flowers from it.

ONLY YOU CAN HOLD ME IN TIME

A coat as an heirloom for a family on which multiple generations leave memories and identity like tattoos. A coat that shows that the value of textile and the relations between the wearer and garment change when history is connected.

“Tell Us” is an activist collection for raising awareness about mental health problems caused by social media. Generation Z and Millennials are the generations who have been raised with social media. But 48 % of Gen Z says social media makes them feel anxious, sad or depressed. (Businesswire, 2019) And according to The Gardian: “having grown up with (and to at least some extend been shaped by) social media, millennials have been especially vulnerable to its worst psychological effects, such as creating an illusory impression of connection and the sense that everyone else is living an impossibly rich, varied and active life.” (The Gardian, 2019) Seeing all these people be “happy” every day on social media controlled by an algorithm makes having real feelings, that are different from “happy”, “strange” and “not normal”.

How is it that an algorithm can create a taboo around having, talking about or showing your real feelings?

With the numbers, facts and having experienced myself what social media can do for your mental health I wanted to create a collection that breaks this taboo.

For this collection I was inspired by Basquait for my brand. Basquiat was a neo- expressionist painter. Neo-Expressionism was taboo-breaking in its reappraisal of the anti-intellectual, intuitive act of painting, which expressed personal feelings and thoughts. They wanted to make images and tell stories again, which seemed impossible for a long time due to the period of dogmatic formalism (Kunstbus, 2020).

This need for expressing feelings and breaking taboo’s is exactly what I wanted to do with my collection “Tell Us”, using the garment as a blanc canvas and prints to express the feelings that have been suppressed by social media.

Emotional Maximalism

In times when everything feels incredibly uncertain and feelings of fear and anxiety are more prevalent, I wanted to create a product that would diminish these emotions and bring the wearer a sense of serenity and comfort.

The Emotional Maximalism concept is about fabrics that feel good on skin, cocooning shape with soft quilting volumes that bring duvet-like warmth and coziness, and a possibility to apply own print design for a greater emotional connection.

M0vement is a collection for the future rave scene (as the name says), as a protest movement. Based on al the demonstrations nowadays. The patterns are based on the dance movements of the ravers by using kinetic pattern cutting. The materials are recycled, since there will be no other option in the future. This scene is a welcoming and faithful community and they are looking for an escape. The communication goes through their print with AR trackers, so will no one ever find their secret locations.

On May 25, 2020, 8.46 minutes of physical oppression of a citizen made world news. George Floyd’s public asphyxiation caused an ocean of tears to overflow. The impunity of police brutality against black people is a continuation of a centuries-long historical line.

It is time for a fresh start. Because how nice would it be if you got up tomorrow and everyone is equal with equal opportunities. A reset button in which everyone is given a blank canvas.

re-SET is a clothing set that invalidates uniforms of “superior authorities”. The police and military uniforms have been combined with the prison uniform and straitjacket to show that for centuries the superiors have not offered the inferior a chance. The struggle between these two parties is turned into a wearable statement. In addition, the re-SET uniforms are suffragettes white to let equality predominate.
